The way Brick Cafe has seen itself for years. Recently there’s been a bit of chatter in the neighborhood, as well as emails sent our way, regarding Brick Cafe (30-95 33rd Street), which has been a staple on 31st Ave for years. Right now they are renovating their bar area, which will still be managed by Brick Cafe; there has been some speculation that the two areas are separating but that is not the case. However, the bar is getting a new name—“Halsey’s Tavern,” named after Stephen Halsey, known to some as the “Father of Astoria.” Here are some of the changes coming to Halsey’s Tavern (big thanks to Brick for the details): The Halsey’s side will have over 20 draft craft beer options, 20 bottled beer options, as well as a wine and cocktail list. All of these options will be available to diners at Brick Cafe as well. The bar will be the length of the room and there will be a few high top cocktail style tables near the windows. There will be two separate food menus, with the Brick side staying pretty much the same with a full selection of appetizers, entrees, salads, and pastas. Halsey’s will have a smaller menu that offers some bar bites to guests. Look for the bar to reopen in a couple of weeks. For now, Brick is open Monday through Friday at 5 p.m. for dinner service. On the weekend they are from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. for brunch; Dinner resumes at 5 p.m. on the weekends. We look forward to checking our Halsey’s Tavern when it’s open!
