Twitter Facebook Email Print How cool is it to run across this Queens Courier article about Astoria’s very own Saw Lady (AKA Natalia Paruz) having her playing featured in an upcoming feature film! The film is called Time Out of Mind and stars Richard Gere. I first remember hearing about this movie last spring from an article in the NY Post about a woman who saw Gere and thought he was a homeless man, so she offered him her remaining pizza pie. As for the Saw Lady’s part in this, she is performing the piece “Lullaby for the Forgotten,” also written by an Astorian, composer Scott Munson. Originally, she was going to be in the film itself—she was filmed but they had to cut her scenes because of “time constraints.” Her playing is still audible during scenes filmed at Grand Central Terminal. About the experience, Natalia says, “It felt more involved than the other movies where I just go into the recording studio and then get out. This movie feels more personal to me because of the subject. The aim of the movie was the focus on homeless people and for me to participate in something that is trying to make awareness of the plight was important.” Congrats, Natalia! We’ll definitely be listening for your silvery sounds during the movie! I heart ‘We Heart Astoria’! And the photo you used is most appropriate now – I’ll be dressed like that this Wednesday at the Union Sq subway, and this Friday (Halloween) at the Times Sq subway, both 12noon to 3pm, both on the mezzanines by N/R trains. If you see me, come say ‘hi’ :) Reply Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
