We got a tip that work was being done at 34-08 30th Ave—the location of the old Video Express video rental shop that bit the dust in the past year—and we reached out to the owners to find out what was going on. Well, it sounds like something grand is coming to that space! And delicious.

The place is going to be a bar called Judy & Punch and they will serve craft beer, cocktails, and “small innovative bites.” They are dedicated to using high quality products, many of them locally-sourced. You’ll find exceptional meats and charcuterie offerings, as well as sandwiches and few other things they are toying around with.

For the drinks, they expect to feature classic cocktails with the addition of their own personal twist. Their aim is to put together a tap list that will be thoughtful without being intimidating. You’ll get to enjoy quaffing a pint or sipping a cocktail at their 25 foot bar that will run down the left side of the space, and there will be floor to ceiling windows in the storefront. They also plan to have a small backyard patio for drinking and eating al fresco.

Overall it sounds quite nice. One one of the people behind it is also involved with One Mile House in the city, so it makes us wonder if Judy & Punch’s menu might resemble theirs to some extent (if so, we’d be happy). But we’ll just have to wait and see. We’ll keep an eye on it!
