As a Texas transplant, I am always on the alert for the taste of home via Mexican cuisine. I was super excited when Maizal opened their doors just footsteps from my apartment. I was pleasantly surprised to discover an inviting aesthetic, and the salty goodness of a tortilla chip smothered in salsa. They are my new go-to when I’m really jonesing for a taste of Texas. As Maizal welcomes Astoria into their new home, they are giving away a delicious Mexican Brunch treat for two! Grab an amigo, amante, or conocido and enter to win! (32-07 34th Ave, Astoria)

Maizal_Skinny Margarita

The winner of this giveaway (and the plus one of their choice) will receive two rounds of Maizals signature skinny margaritas, made with ruby red grapefruit and an orange-peel simple syrup. Followed by fresh molcajete-made guacamole and hand-cut corn chips, fried fresh in house.

Next you’ll sample garlic-shrimp with sweet plantains, stuffed with melted jack cheese and drizzled in spicy Cajeta sauce. Followed by skirt steak and eggs – served with crispy potatoes and Maizal green salad.

I’ve walked by a few times and have yet to try them out so I would love to win this! Margaritas and guac are the perfect warm weather foods!

Love the happy hours sangria with the guac. also, love the sweet plaintain and cheese topped with the shrimps.

I’m most excited to try the shrimp! Because my boyfriend doesn’t eat shrimp so I’d be able to eat his!

Super excited to try the garlic shrimp…Two amazing foods put together, and the photo looks delicious!

I love anything and everything with avocados in it so I am pumped to try their guacamole! And of course, their cocktails.

As a fellow Texan, I’m always a bit skeptical about Mexican food here… but I’m more than willing to be proven wrong

I am so excited about this giveaway! I’m a California transplant in desperate need of a new go-to guacamole place. I’m also a huge fan of plantains and fish tacos.

Mouth is watering for them all, but I’ll say garlic-shrimp with sweet plantains

Ate here twice already and went once for their late night happy hour (after 10). Gracious owners and excellent food and drinks. I wanna try that grouper taco!

This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The shrimp and plantains sound amazing.

We ate here on Tuesday night, with our baby. The staff was very welcoming to us, and the decor was lovely!

YES! So excited for this- right around the corner from my apartment! I have a feeling I will be spending many a dinner there.

It all looks so delicious! Looking forward to trying the garlic-shrimp with sweet plantains. I’m also glad to see a Mexican spot serving up home-made corn tortillas in the neighborhood.
