As a Texas transplant, I am always on the alert for the taste of home via Mexican cuisine. I was super excited when Maizal opened their doors just footsteps from my apartment. I was pleasantly surprised to discover an inviting aesthetic, and the salty goodness of a tortilla chip smothered in salsa. They are my new go-to when I’m really jonesing for a taste of Texas. As Maizal welcomes Astoria into their new home, they are giving away a delicious Mexican Brunch treat for two! Grab an amigo, amante, or conocido and enter to win! (32-07 34th Ave, Astoria)

The winner of this giveaway (and the plus one of their choice) will receive two rounds of Maizals signature skinny margaritas, made with ruby red grapefruit and an orange-peel simple syrup. Followed by fresh molcajete-made guacamole and hand-cut corn chips, fried fresh in house.

Next you’ll sample garlic-shrimp with sweet plantains, stuffed with melted jack cheese and drizzled in spicy Cajeta sauce. Followed by skirt steak and eggs – served with crispy potatoes and Maizal green salad.

Last, but certainly not least, fresh grouper tacos, with cilantro-lime mayo, pickled red onions and homemade corn tortillas.
