Twitter Facebook Email Print Last month we told you about newcomer Astoria Beer and Brew, “a new beer bar that will take home brew recipes and make them for customers… owned by Bistro 33, right next door.” Well, today they’re opening—though it’s just the home brew part, and it’s a soft opening. This is the old Side Door space, for those of you that remember that little dessert-then-sushi-restaurant. We’ve been told by a WHA reader that is seriously in the know that the bar’s liquor license is en route, so that part of things will open at a later date, but the home brew aspect of the business is a go. According to our friend, “They will be open all week from 12-8 p.m. and will soon start doing home brewing classes and group events for tastings and such.” The origins of Astoria Beer and Brew are found on their Facebook page: “Born out of a shared passion for fine beer, Astoria Beer and Brew is a bar that celebrates the art and the science of brewing beer and a homebrew store devoted to the spirit of neighborhood conviviality.” Local home brewing expert and maven Rodrigo Urbieta (formerly of The Queens Kickshaw and Fatty’s) is involved with this venture, as are Gary Anza and Evan Orlic of Bistro 33 (which is going to have a new name soon!). Find them at their website and on Facebook for now. Welcome, Astoria Beer and Brew!
