Twitter Facebook Email Print Yesterday, Mackenzi and I spent some time at a press conference in a parking lot in Long Island City learning more about the LIC Flea & Food, coming to Long Island City in mid-June. It’s going to take place in said parking lot at the corner of 5th Street and 46th Avenue – owned by the Plaxall folks – just adjacent to Anable Basin. The LIC Flea will launch on Saturday, June 15, and happen every Saturday and Sunday from 10am-6pm. This map is slightly misleading, since it’s old, but the location is right on the money. Now, just to the west of the parking lot is an almost finished parking garage, and plenty of high rises nearby, too. But more about the Flea. It’s the brainchild of Josh Schneps, one of the co-publishers of the Queens Courier. That’s him below, speaking, and he also sort of moderated the press conference. Additional partners in this venture are real estate developer TF Cornerstone, the East River Ferry, LIC Partnership, as well as the QEDC. Local politicians were there to give their blessing, including City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer, who is a wonderful representative for this part of Queens. Borough President Helen Marshall was also in attendance and expressed her love of flea markets, yard sales, and deals in general. About 60 vendors will be selling their goods – food and drink, antiques, art, crafts, apparel, and more. Be prepared to see a number of food artisans from the QEDC Entrepreneur Space, an incubator kitchen located on Northern Blvd in LIC. Bonus for them – nearby Food Cellar will also be carrying these food vendors from the LIC Flea. Three of the vendors were revealed at the press conference – neighborhood (and our) favorite, Malu, who will be debuting a new flavor at the start of the Flea, called “Fleatastic”; Gianna Cerbone-Teoli of Manducatis Rustica will be selling her new brand of olive oil and white truffle oil under the Mama Gianna label (olive oil comes from Umbria in Italy); and Matted, which will sell local art, frames, and other related products. The LIC Flea is positioned to be within walking distance from the 7, E, M, and G subway trains, and there will be a bus from the East River Ferry directly to the Flea. The Q103 bus on Vernon is just a block from the LIC Flea, and the aforementioned parking garage will be just about ready in time for the Flea, making driving an easy option for some. This should be a pretty nice addition to LIC and Western Queens in general. We are looking forward to checking it out in June!
