While out and about in Astoria on Saturday, I noticed that the old Harissa space (RIP) is going to become a new ramen restaurant, apparently called “Ramen Okidoki.” I must say, the name sounds a little dorky to my (English speaking) ears – does “okidoki” mean something relevant in Japanese?
I did take a look at the DOB file and the business name is actually/officially “RAMEN & YAKITON.” My understanding is that “yakiton” means “grilled pork.” At least that’s what Google told me; I am sure a native Japanese speaker would have a better idea of it.
I loved the food at Harissa and was really sorry to see it go. This new ramen place will be the third of its kind to open in Astoria (the other being HinoMaru Ramen on Ditmars and Tamashii Ramen on Broadway). Here’s hoping it brings something interesting to the neighborhood.
Hey residents of Astoria, thank you for posting about us. We will be having our grand opening on this Friday, June 7th at 6:00 P.M. We expect to see you guys there!! Make sure to have an empty stomach and try our delicious ramen and appetizers!!!
Sincerely, Ramen Okidoki

Still waiting for Tamashii to open…
Yes, saw that too walking down 30th yesterday. Curious how they’ll make the space work.
