It’s hard to say which of the about-to-open Astoria Arrivals I’m most excited about (MP Taverna on Ditmars? Mar’s on 34th Ave? Snowdonia on 35th Ave? Tamishii Ramen on Broadway?) but if I was pressed I’d have to say Milk Flower on 31st Avenue. This bustling food laden avenue already has some impressive residents: Bareburger, Pachanga Patterson, and Il Bambino just to name a few, but Astoria is always open to welcoming a few more to its ranks.

I had the opportunity to stop into Milkflower last night and ask a few burning WHA questions. Run by two brothers from Jersey, this wood fired pizza place should be ready to open sometime next month. I have to say, I’m super impressed with the interiors, which the brothers have been crafting by hand, bit-by-bit, over the past year. Look for exposed brick, reclaimed wood, cool murals, subway tiles and banquette seats made out of old burlap sacks.

How great are these burlap sack + reclaimed wood banquettes?

The brother who’ll be manning the oven has 10+ years of pizza experience.

The custom mural pays tribute to the space’s former life as a dry cleaner.

Though they didn’t want to give up too many secrets just yet, the Milkflower owners did mention we can expect a gluten free pie, possible brunch hours, and a beautiful backyard. In addition to pizza, Milkflower will be serving up salads and appetizers.
