APAC Presents Billy Witch- A Word From Our Friends

WHA’ers one of our greatest joys in writing We Heart Astoria is supporting local endeavors of all varieties. Our good friends at APAC (Astoria Performing Arts Center) have worked so hard to create some seriously awesome theater in Astoria and they need you help. Dear Friends,

After a crisis, there is always the drive to get back to normal, to get back to business.

Well, we are in a very strange business. Getting back to normal at APAC means producing a bawdy dark comedy set at summer camp – Billy Witch.

We canceled the first three performances, but worked hard to see the show open TOMORROW NIGHT, November 3rd.

Our hope is that the people who see it on Saturday night are transported – that they laugh, get completely creeped out, and are reminded of their own teen years. That they come to the show with friends or girlfriends or husbands or coworkers. That they go out together before or after and have a drink or split a pizza.

We know people are dealing with loss and some (including members of the Billy Witch cast and staff) are living without power, heat or transportation.

But APAC has been around for 12 years now, and this isn’t the first time that we’ve produced a show while the city was reeling from tragedy. In those past instances, we saw audience members who were seeking community find it at the theater.

If you’re looking for some silliness and provocative fun on Saturday night, have we got a show for you…

A note to those of you who plan to see the show – We will be collecting emergency goods (canned food diapers, etc.) at the door before the show. We will bring them to Councilman Peter Vallone Jr.’s office, where goods are being collected and distributed to those in need.
