Get to Know Astoria’s Current Beer Scene A Cozy Night at The Barn, A Hidden Astoria Gem Photo credit: Beer Closet Well, it appears that LIC’s Beer Closet (5-35 51st Ave) may be closed. We drove by the other day and saw the place papered up and people taking crates of stuff out. We’ve also spent the past couple of days calling both numbers listed for them to confirm this news, and it’s been no dice—for one of them the mailbox is full and the other has been disconnected. Foursquare also marks Beer Closet as closed. So, it does not look good for their staying power. That’s a bit of a tricky location—LIC Living, which became elska, shut their shop down in that building (you can still access them online), and the 51st Bakery and Cafe in the same building has limited hours on the weekends (only open til 1pm), likely because business is so light. Anyway, we are sorry to see Beer Closet closed—if you have additional intel, please leave us a comment.
