Every year we get pretty psyched to tell you about the Welling Court Mural Project, now in its seventh year. It’s a celebration of “the streets, solidarity, community and culture” and a true feast for the eyes, heart, and soul.

Originally started as a way to fight blight in this western Astoria neighborhood, the Welling Court Mural Project is now one of the major areas for street art in Queens (RIP 5 Pointz) and features some pretty sophisticated, thought-provoking, and gorgeous art. For context regarding output, the first Welling Court Mural Project featured around 40 murals; this year there are over 130! I’m certainly impressed.

The murals are, of course, open for viewing all the time, but June 11 is the big celebratory day of the new art, and there will be a self-guided walking tour (wear comfy shoes) as well as sticker-making workshops all day with Sticker Social Club.

So head on over to the Welling Court Murals on Saturday, June 11; noon to 7pm is the event timeframe the organizers indicate in their Facebook invite. There are other great attractions nearby, too, including Socrates Sculpture Park (one of the stops on the LIC Art Bus) with its Greenmarket, and one of our favorite eateries, Astor Bake Shop, is also close by. You can totally make a day of it.
