At Taste of LIC last night, we spied this curious sign at the Studio Square/S Prime table: “Chef Julian Medina Is Coming To Astoria.” Inquiring further about it, we learned that he is setting up shop in the old 5 Napkin Burger space, which is adjacent to S Hospitality Group property S Prime.

Likely it’s another location for Toloache, the much celebrated Mexican restaurant with locations in Midtown, Downtown, and on the UES, where Julian¬†Medina is chef and owner. We have reached out to both the restaurant and to our press contact at S Hospitality Group to learn more. We’ll update you with more details as we get them.

A few extra¬†tidbits—Chef Medina once lived in Astoria (he mentions it in his memory of 9/11), looks like he’s a fan of Astoria’s Taverna Kyclades (mmm… octopus), and his prior connection to Studio Square is an event he was a part of there in September 2011.
