SUMMARY:Live Music - RoseAnn Fino
DESCRIPTION:RoseAnn of RoseAnn Fino And The Lovely Misfits grew up in a small farmhouse in the Hudson Valley that always had Dylan or Springsteen blaring. Her parents\, avid music fans\, began taking her to nightclubs and concert halls as soon as she could walk. When she turned five her father put a guitar in her hands. A kiss on the head from Patti Smith when she was eight\, a pick from Bob Dylan’s steel guitar player when she was ten\, these moments shaped her and gave her a drive to become a performer herself. \nFino moved to New York City when she was just seventeen. There she began writing her own tunes about booze-fueled nights and tongue in cheek love. She studied writing and music performance at Hunter College. A plucky\, awkwardly dressed country girl\, she began shakily playing her songs at open mics. Soon she began to find her voice: a mix of city punk with country/americana roots. Though\, it wasn’t until she went into the studio with producer Aaron L. Hurwitz (Professor Louie-The Band) to record her debut album in 2013 that it all started to come together. Featured on the recording is the legendary group Professor Louie & The Crowmatix with guitarist John Platania (Van Morrison). With the album\, which was released on Woodstock Records\, she was able to solidify her expressive singing and distinctive style. \nIn 2015\, she went back into the studio\, this time Atomic Sound Studios in Brooklyn\, with a bunch of her friends and recorded her EP “Out From Under” in one day. Deciding to take a different approach\, this time she co-produced the album with her musical companion and beloved bandmate Ryan Shapiro. This EP was released in September 2015 with a follow up EP “Airing of Grievances” released in the spring of 2016 using the same formula.\n\nRoseAnn currently lives in Queens with her many adopted pets and plays frequently with her band RoseAnn Fino And The Lovely Misfits. \nTo listen – http://www.roseannfino.com/ \n

SUMMARY:Latin Fridays: Autism Dances
DESCRIPTION:Salsa In Queens is partnering with Autism Radio to raise funds for autism awareness. The new Astoria based dance studio will host their monthly salsa social on Friday April 28th\, donating a portion of the proceeds to Autism Radio. The $15 entrance fee includes a 4 hour party with a live dj\, a free salsa class\, and entry into a prize raffle. \nThis is the third year Autism Radio partners with a local business to raise money- the first two events were hosted by the UFC gym in New Hyde Park Long Island\, New York. Last year the gym raised over $2\,000 with their annual “Grappling for Autism” fundraiser event. Brandon Adames\, Head Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Instructor at the UFC gym and organizer of the annual events said\, “People on the Autism spectrum are talented and unique individuals. Many of them find an outlet to express themselves through various forms of art\, including dance.” The studio expects to raise over $2500 this year. \nAs part of the campaign this year\, there will also be a GoFundMe page for those who cannot attend the social\, but would like to donate to the cause. Tickets to the social can be bought at salsainqueens.com or by calling 347.695.4387. \nThe studio is located on 34-27 Steinway Street in Astoria\, Queens between 34th and 35th ave \n
