Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) is the largest non-profit artist group in Brooklyn and one of the oldest – now in its 39th year. On exhibit thru June 12 are 3 distinct shows in BWAC’s 25,000 square foot Civil War-era gallery on the piers in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
The Annual Spring Pier show (in its 24th year with 200 members exhibiting) has this year the theme of ‘Roode Hoek’, a celebration of Red Hook’s Dutch past leading up its multicultural present. ‘Wide Open 7’, a national juried show selected by Metropolitan Museum assistant curator, Beth Saunders, has 120 pieces chosen from over 1,900 submissions. ‘Recycle’, an exhibit juried by Harriet Taub of NYC’s Materials for the Arts, consists of 65 works in the new re-use genre.
The exhibits are open WEEKENDS ONLY 1 – 6pm, May 7 – June 12. Special events are planned for every day of the show.
