If you’ve ever strolled past any of the gorgeous, curated art galleries in Long Island City, but felt too intimated to walk in or didn’t quite know how the process worked, now is your chance! LIC Arts Open (LICAO), which started 10 years ago, is an annual weekend art events that takes place every May. Three years ago they expanded to include a fall sister event, taking place this weekend Nov. 15-17!

During these weekends, “artists in the LIC neighborhood, local galleries and art organizations open their doors and welcome the public to view art, meet artists, and get a glimpse of the life of visual artists.”

Both galleries that LICAO operates in The Factory LIC (30-30 47 th Ave, LIC 11101) will have shows over the weekend. In the larger 7000 sq. ft. Gallery ONE, they will host a Salon event with over 300 works from many artists. The walls will be filled in an old school Paris-style salon. All works are for sale with some very affordable options.

The main Open Studios event will take place on Nov. 16 and 17 from 12 to 6 p.m. To know exactly which studios are participating, pick up a booklet at LIC Art Center, The Factory, Plaxall Gallery, Court Sq Diner and other studios in the area.

There will also be a “10 x 10 exhibition and fundraiser,” which features new work by local artists on 10 x 10 ply boards. All of the finished pieces will be displayed starting Friday, Nov. 15 in The Factory’s Gallery TWO space. On Sunday, they will host a closing party for the Open Studios event during which all of the pieces are entered into a Silent Auction with prices starting at a reserve of $100. All the proceeds benefit the LIC Arts Open.
