I can hardly believe it’s here, but the time has come to wrap up another amazing ‘12 Days of Giveaways‘ here on We Heart Astoria. We’re totally thrilled at how many of you played along. For those who’ve won, a big hearty congratulations once more.

We usually try to have “Orphan” New Year with our friends. So many of us are pretty far removed from our family (Chapel Hill and New Orleans respectively for me and my wife) that there are usually a good number of us around. We’ve made it a tradition to get together for a huge potluck that is representative of our various culinary backgrounds. We stuff ourselves silly with great food, let the spirits flow freely, dance and then all kiss and hug once the clock strikes midnight. It’s not the most original celebration, but it’s the most earnest and heartfelt.

Before marriage and children I would go to parties with my friends. At one, we would watch the ball drop and then run as fast as we could to the finish line of the midnite road runners race in Central Park. I miss those days.
My favorite is to have some one special to kiss at midnight!

I enjoy New Years Day, which we spend on the couch watching movies, playing board games, and eating leftover christmas candy (if we can find any!)
My favorite New Year’s Eve tradition is cooking a fancy dinner at home.
My favorite way to celebrate the New Year is to spend it with my friends and family. This will be my first New Year’s in Astoria, so I invited friends whom I haven’t seen in quite some time to drink and party with me in my new dwelling!

We try to stay up every year, but end up crashing around 11:45 and waking up at 1. Woo hoo.
Before moving to the states, we used to watch fireworks on the rooftop of the apartment building. Now, we have big family gathering at home, have hot pot and stay warm inside.
We always bang pots together and throw pennies in the street!
As long as I’m in a sparkly top, have a glass of champagne in my hand, and am surrounded by my favorite people, I would be happy anywhere!
Cook dinner and have a quiet night in with my family!
Singing ‘Auld Lang Syne’ at the top of our lungs and mumbling through the words we don’t know, which is most of it.
Watching the Ball Drop on TV!
For the best few years it’s been playing Rock Band at a friend’s party. This year will be a *dance* party. Yes, in a NY apartment. Go figure.
Also: I’ll be heavily armed just in case 2011 decides to stick around.

Growing up, I couldn’t wait to see the ball drop on TV and go out on my deck in Jersey and bang trash cans and spin noisemakers! I’ve grown up a little, and now just watch the ball drop and pop champagne, but I know once I have children we’ll all be making noise in celebration of the new year!
