Have you been to any of the art installation openings at Q.E.D.? They are a lot of fun—good crowds, tasty snacks, and engaging art on the walls. They do this from time to time, and the next opening celebration of new art installation in tomorrow, December 6. It will feature work by Astoria artist, Kelly Franké, from 6-9:30pm.

Particularly notable about this exhibit is that, according to Kambri Crews, owner of Q.E.D., it is the “first to exclusively feature New York State as its subject” at Q.E.D.. So, if you love to see NY State depicted in art, this is the show for you. Kambri adds, “I’ve been a fan of Kelly’s ever since I first laid eyes on her work hanging at a local restaurant. Her art can be found all over the city and to be able to feature an entire collection of hers at Q.E.D. is a huge honor.”

More about Franké from Q.E.D.’s press release:

“Franké grew up in Babylon, New York, where she spent much of her childhood drawing in her father’s studio.Today, Franké holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from Alfred University (2008) and a Masters in Fine Art (2012) from Indiana University. Throughout both degrees she intensively studied drawing, painting, and printmaking, both in traditional and unconventional forms. Franké has taught Fundamental Drawing at both Indiana University and Caldwell University. Currently, Franké works out of her two studios located in Astoria, NYC and Greenport on Long Island.”

You can see some of her work, here. And Kelly talks about her relationship to drawing over on the event’s Facebook page:

“Drawing is a process of building and searching. I’ve always been attracted to landscapes that are architecturally intricate. The harder it is to draw, the greater my need is to conquer it on paper. However my interest is not in photo realism. My focus is primarily on linear elements, and how I can achieve explicit detail with minimal, elegant lines. I strive to map out structural proportions perfectly. In attempts to balance accuracy and play, I allow certain moments to remain unfinished, as if faded away. Exposed construction lines echo traditional blueprints. Essentially my drawings are constructions – some very literal, others more allusive.”

This should be a pretty good show and we encourage you to check it out. The artwork will be on display and available for purchase through May 2017.
