It’s that time again—Sunnyside Restaurant Week time!

The Third Annual Sunnyside Restaurant Week is a five-day promotion from October 19–23, organized by the Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District. 29 restaurants are participating, and each one will serve a three course dinner menu for $25; many establishments offering additional lunch specials. On the menu: Italian, Japanese, Peruvian, Mexican, Irish, Thai, Colombian, Filipino, French, Seasonal American, and more.

Participating restaurants include newcomers to the Sunnyside culinary scene (SoleLuna) as well as the neighborhood’s two restaurants recognized as Michelin “Bib Gourmands” (Venturo and Salt and Fat).

Sunnyside Shines kicks off the Third Annual Sunnyside Restaurant Week with an opening reception TONIGHT. Head to Bliss Plaza (46th St. and Queens Boulevard, under the 7 train station) at 7pm to join a guided tour of selected neighborhood restaurants offering hors d’oeuvres, and will culminate in a talk at SoleLuna by artist Giorgio Casu about his mural.

As we mentioned above, Sunnyside Restaurant Week will feature screenings of contemporary video and film at Bliss Plaza and inside four participating restaurants. Tonight at 6:30pm, enjoy film screenings at Bliss Plaza on food and the creative process in collaboration with Queens World Film Festival. Additional screenings include:

  • Tuesday, October 20, 7-9pm—Art videos featuring Marta Rosler’s Semiotics of the Kitchen and Anne Tardos’ Apple Eaters (Dazies, 39-41 Queens Blvd.)
  • Wednesday, October 21, 7-9pm—Film screenings: Queens-Centric, in collaboration with Queens World Film Festival (Claret Wine Bar, 46-02 Skillman Ave)
  • Thursday, October 22, 7-9pm—Short films by William Wegman (Don Pollo, 41-06 Greenpoint Ave.)
  • Friday, October 23, 7-9pm—Film screenings: Dark comedy and horror in collaboration with Queens World Film Festival (The Dog and Duck, 45-20 Skillman Ave.)

Together with the site-specific mural by Giorgio Casu at SoleLuna, this program of films and art is entitled From Dusk Till Dawn, curated, by Sarah Corona and Rachel Gugelberger for No Longer Empty.

This is a great way to get to know Sunnyside’s ever expanding culinary scene. So take advantage of it and go get some good eats!
