There’s a new holiday market this year, the Asteria Indie Market, a collaboration between The Aurora Gallery and Asteria Indie Collective, “a collection of local artists creating experiences that are affordable and accessible to all ages in the community.” Their market, which will feature local artisans offering food, jewelry, clothing, and personal care products, is taking place this Sunday, December 7 at the Aurora Gallery. You can shop between noon and 6 p.m. Debbie Lakis Cartoas, founding member of Asteria Indie Collective, says about the market, “By showcasing our individual items for sale, hosting an all-day show of mini-workshops & dance performances for children & adults, we intend to make this a wholesome event. One you can enjoy with your children, get some shopping done and take in the local art scene.” The Aurora Gallery sits in the middle of the Kaufman Arts District, not far from the Museum of the Moving Image, Kaufman Astoria Studios, great restaurants, and more. We’ve also heard that partial proceeds from sales at the market will be donated to the Queens Council on the Arts, so that’s just another reason to support this market. Vendors (more info here, and here) include Luni Jewelry, Twee & Honey, D.Webb Designs, La Femme Millinery, ChocoChalski, Raise The Bar (Coolinary Kitchen), Queens88, Nena’s Cupcakes & Goodies, BecauseOfYouOrganics, Lisa y JosuĂ© – Guitar Duo, Stone Cottage Soapworks, and Baby Glyph. The Aurora Gallery is located at 35-18 37th Street on the second floor.
