First this post is SPECULATIVE, but there’s enough brewing in my brain to get it out there.
As you know from yesterday, we heard that Frankie’s Pizza closed after 50 years in the business. A local restauranteur commented about a rumor he heard that Artichoke Basile—which we thought was moving into the old Teddy’s Florist/Grocery space across the street—is actually moving into the Frankie’s space. I noticed that there was a new sign up today on the door which said, “Closed for Renovations.”
This could mean they are renovating for Artichoke. Last paperwork filed with the DOB in that space was in June. There is a logic behind this scenario, since the pizza equipment is already there.
We also recently heard that the Teddy’s Florist/Grocery space is actually going to be a donner kabob place, which would match up with our original guess that the new restaurant could be Turkish. But what is the deal with the records that indicate pizza ovens are going into that space? Is there such a thing as Turkish pizza? If so, we would totally eat that.
We will continue to keep our ears to the ground and see what we can come up with. All previous emails to Artichoke have gone unanswered; we’ll try again, though. If you have additional info, we welcome hearing about it!

Lahmajun is Turkish pizza
Mangal Kabob in Sunnyside does turkish pizza. what they sell as homemade bread (which is AWESOME) is what they use as the base as well. never had the pizza bc we’re too busy with the lamb gyro, falafel and shepherd’s salad. If you’ve never been there, it’s a must.
Also if they are brick pizza ovens, you can use those to roast meat…that would be fine by me too.
Yeah the idea of turkish toppings on pizza is pretty damn sexy to me. charred green peppers and lamb meat. BRING IT!
I heard, there is Boston Market and Chile’s also coming up on 31st street and Ditmars BLVD. I heard from the source at Jolson Liquor Store
I surely hope you are being facetious or joking. That sounds like a horrible scenario.
Meh, with $30 pies/$4 slices and competition from Tuffino, Republic, Michael Angelo’s, Via Vai, the new Razzie’s on Ditmars, and pizza counters like Rosario’s and Rose and Joe’s, hopefully it will be something other than pizza.
