Scenes from the First Q.E.D. Open House Last Night

Last night I wandered over to Q.E.D.’s open house to check out the space—that is totally refreshed from what I saw originally—and the art show, Seeing Stories. It was a really nice, relaxed time and I had a number of great conversations with owner Kambri and her husband Christian.

I was also completely draw to the lenticulars by Margeaux Walter. A clumsy way to describe them—but one that works for me—is that they are like animated gifs in the real world. Wikipedia describes them as, “a technology in which lenticular lenses (a technology that is also used for 3D displays) are used to produce printed images with an illusion of depth, or the ability to change or move as the image is viewed from different angles.” Here’s an example of one:

They are very cool and worth a trip to Q.E.D. to see. There are three of them up right now. There is more interesting art up, too (I also rather liked Barometer Jump – Oil on wood, wire).

Here are some shots of the place. The performance space is in the back and the cafe and bar area is up front. The tasty nibbles were provided by Astoria Bier & Cheese (I couldn’t get over how savory and yum the little cubes of sharp cheddar were).

I heard they will do another open house next Wednesday and then they’ll take a break, re-opening on November 3 for the Frank Conniff show.
