This week we were notified that participatory budgeting—AKA “What Would You Do With $1 Million?”—is coming to Astoria (Council District 22) via our councilman Costa Constantinides. Costa’s office emailed us these details:
Each Council Member allocated $1 Million out of his/her discretionary budget and the residents of the district vote to decide how to spend it. The process starts very soon. We’ll be holding neighborhood assemblies so that anyone who is interested can come to suggest ideas and discuss which projects should be put on the ballot.
You may remember that this participatory budgeting process was announced from Jimmy Van Bramer’s office back in July, and they held some public meetings in both Queensbridge and Sunnyside.
There will be three public info meetings in October and November, where you can share your ideas for funding improvements like parks, school repairs, transportation, and other things you deep important:
October 22
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
PS 234, 30-15 29th Street
October 27
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
PS 122, 21-21 Ditmars Blvd
November 19
6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
NYCHA Astoria Community Center, 4-05 Astoria Blvd (Astoria Houses)
This is a great opportunity to give your input and make a difference in the process. See you there!
