Artist in Residency Space Grant from Astoria Fine Arts Dance

We received news of a terrific opportunity for dancers/choreographers who want to do their creative work in Astoria—the Artist in Residency Space Grant from Astoria Fine Arts Dance. Both emerging and mid-career artists are eligible and it looks like there is no restriction on place of origin in order to apply (so, whether you are currently inside or outside of Astoria, you are eligible). Rehearsing, teaching, and performing will happen in Astoria.

Artists in Residency at AFADance will rehearse, teach classes and perform all in the same location. This combination is specifically designed so that artists can start building a home base of fans, clients and supporters. “AFADance feels like home,” said Rebecca Hite, Co-Artistic Director of Reject Dance Theatre. Rebecca both lives and rehearses in Astoria. “The opportunities AFADance has offered me in the past have positively affected my company and my work.”

Additionally, the residency is not limited to one stye of dance—ballet, modern, jazz, tap, musical theatre, hip hop, “and any other possible category” will be considered.

Does anyone know what the hell happened to AFAD? Apparently they closed suddenly/without warning, but I see zero media coverage.
