I’ve read this site since I moved to the neighborhood almost five years ago, thinking of it as the “cool” older sister who can educate me when public transpo is down or point me to the hottest new restaurant opening. I write about food, new business and history in NYC, and am so excited to be covering my home neighborhood in a larger capacity now. For some other quick fun facts: in my spare time I adore meal planning in my (tiny) apartment kitchen, trying to get outdoors by hiking and camping in the Hudson Valley, and reading the best new literature (I used to work in publishing and just joined Astoria Bookshop‘s awesome new Feminerdy book club). My favorite thing about this neighborhood is its very “small town” feel within the vast expanse of New York City. I love to see familiar faces on the block, have a go-to bagel or happy hour spot, and the overall atmosphere of people supporting each other. So, tell me, my amazing community – what do you want to see on WHA? More food? More faces? Any story leads you want me to check out? Let me know in the comments below! I look forward to serving you well :) Twitter Facebook Email Print AstoriaAstoria Bookshoplocal writersnewnew at whaWe Heart Astoria IntroWe Heart Astoria Staffwriters Related scoops A Fireside Reading at LIC Bar 9 Comments Mangooli “Man of Wisdoms” Muchachi March 22nd, 2019 Very nice meeting you, Clara. Reply Maria March 22nd, 2019 Hello and welcome :) I’d like to second the comment about more info on things to do in Astoria. The calendar page is a bit sparse. I sometimes find myself feeling a little jealous of our Brooklyn neighbors for their abundance of entertainment and special interest hangouts. I’m sure I’m just not taking advantage of what’s available to us in Astoria! Reply Sarah March 21st, 2019 Hi! Would you be interested in covering a local business profile of a non profit soccer academy in Astoria! They are doing some pretty awesome stuff for the community! Feel free to email- sarah@psofnyc.com and I’ll put you in touch!! Reply Simon Eapen March 19th, 2019 Welcome Claire! Looking forward to your posts about Astoria! Good Luck! Reply Claire Leaden March 20th, 2019 Thanks so much! Excited to be here :) Reply Em March 19th, 2019 Welcome, Claire! I’d like to hear about more about things to do around town – such as your book club! I sometimes feel like all there is to do here is eat at a different restaurant every night of the week. It’s a good problem to have…but I’d like to learn about new ways to meet and spend time with my neighbors. Reply Claire Leaden March 20th, 2019 Thanks, Em! I totally agree with you–I love to eat out, but it’s nice to know what other activity options there are too (and there are a lot). I’ll get on that! Reply Nicole P March 18th, 2019 Welcome Claire!
