A new coffee shop is coming to the old La Vita Mia pizzeria.
Taking over the former La Vita Mia pizzeria is a first for Astoria: Mighty Oak Roasters. We talked to creator Sean Donnelly back in March of this year, and he told us that Mighty Oak will be Astoria’s first wood-fired coffee roaster in nearly one hundred years. The team is excited to share this old-school method of coffee roasting with the neighborhood. And we’re betting it’s going to smell pretty amazing, too.
Construction is currently underway at the corner of 24th Avenue and 28th Street. The place is getting a makeover with large new windows, lots of shelving and counter space for service. Most of the furniture is being handmade for a homey and unique look. Style inspiration comes from the 1920s, when wood fires were last used to roast coffee in the area.

Mighty Oak will not only roast coffee, but will serve a full menu of espresso and coffee drinks, as well as locally made pastries and savory treats.
In addition to building, the team is also sampling coffees from around the world to add to their menu.
Follow Mighty Oak on Facebook and Instagram to keep up to date with their progress, and we’ll keep you posted about their upcoming opening!
Hey Laura (and WHA team)
Thanks for the love! Just a heads up, our name is Mighty Oak Roasters (not Coffee). We’ll keep you posted with more info as we can. :)
Thanks for the heads up!
