Openings, Closings and Rumors: Mid-Winter 2020 Astorian John Surico had his eagle eye out and snapped a photo of this—evidence that celebrated ice cream maker Ample Hills Creamery is coming to Astoria. Fellow Astorians: @amplehills comes to Queens! And with Chip across the block, 30th Ave is slowly becoming Dessert Row. Ample Hills has had its eye on expansion within and beyond NYC—BK Mag reported in November 2015 about $4 million fundraiser spearheaded by Charlie O’Donnell of Brooklyn Bridge Ventures to help with that. Their plans at the time was to “build a gigantic new ‘interactive’ production facility in nearby Brooklyn, build new retail locations in New York City and beyond, and put a lot more Ample Hills Creamery pints into many more stores.” The expansion into Astoria would fit in that plan. As an aside, the factory in Red Hook is planned for a summer 2018 opening. That coincides with the plan to have the Astoria Ample Hills location open this coming summer, too. If you’re curious about what to expect at an Ample Hills, this Business Insider article has tons of photos and observations from an Ample Hills newbie. In the article she says, “Each store has a signature flavor.” Any idea what Astoria’s signature flavor might be? We reached out to Ample Hills and they responded with “more news coming soon”—so the arrival is legit, the details are still hush-hush We’ll bring you more info when we get it. So tell us, what do you think of Ample Hills—who has the hopes and dreams of becoming the next Ben & Jerry’s—coming to Astoria? Have you had their ice cream? Did you enjoy it. Leave us a comment.
