Twitter Facebook Email Print You probably know this by now, but we LOVE live music for a good cause. Having a few drinks while enjoying tunes only gets better when you know the proceeds are going somewhere important. So naturally, we had to tell you about the event going down Thursday at WHA favorite The Let Love Inn! The beloved bar/music venue will be hosting Rock For Rehab starting at 9pm on Thursday night, an evening of music benefitting Jail Guitar Doors, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing rehabilitation to incarcerated individuals through music. There will be a suggested $5 cover at the door. Here’s some more about the organization, from event’s organizer and performer Walter “Sick Walt” Novak: In 1978, The Clash released the song, “Jail Guitar Doors,” telling the story of the imprisonment of their fellow musician Wayne Kramer. In 2007, to honor the life of Clash founder, Joe Strummer, Billy Bragg launched an initiative to provide musical equipment used to rehabilitate inmates serving time in Her Majesty’s Prisons in the UK. His initiative is named for that very same song, “Jail Guitar Doors.” In 2009, Wayne Kramer partnered with Billy Bragg to found Jail Guitar Doors USA. Together, their combined effort continues the mission for prisoners in America. The circle is unbroken. If you caught either the Tom Petty or The Band tribute nights recently at Singlecut, you’ll likely remember Sick Walt for his over-the-top stage presence. (That’s not an exaggeration; one of my friends literally thought he was going to start swinging from the rafters at one point.) Folks visiting The Let Love Inn on Thursday are certainly in for a high energy night! For more information and to RSVP, check out the official Facebook event here.
