Twitter Facebook Email Print A neighborhood Climate Rally will be taking place Friday evening in Astoria Park in honor of Earth Day and the People’s Climate March on Washington. Folks passionate about environmental protection and combating climate change are encouraged to attend. All attendees will receive an environmentally-friendly reusable bag to take home. Attendees are welcome to gather at 6:30pm at the Shore Blvd entrance at Astoria Park’s Great Lawn. (Enter park on 23rd Ave and walk toward Shore Blvd) Here’s an official statement from Council Member Costa Constantinides: “As the recent executive order on climate shows, the Trump administration will choose fossil fuels over our public health and safety. It’s up to cities to make combating climate change and reducing pollution a top priority. That’s why we are hosting this rally for climate action. In honor of Earth Day and as a send-off for everyone going down to D.C. for the People’s Climate March on Washington, we must show how valuable environmental protection and combating climate change is to our city and for our planet. We will reaffirm our support for actions that decrease pollution and increase use of renewable energy. All attendees will hear about our personal climate action plan, which will include advice on how every New Yorker can improve our environment. I look forward to seeing our Astoria community join us on April 28th to show that we stand together on climate.” The event’s co-sponsors include: Public Advocate Letitia James City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito Senator Michael Gianaris Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas New York League of Conservation Voters Astoria Park Alliance Astoria March NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) For more information, check out the official Facebook event here.
