Every year on May 5, Americans love to indulge in copious amounts of Mexican food and drink in recognition of a battle won by Mexican forces over the French during the 19th century. Here’s where to do so—and then some—in the neighborhood (and a little beyond) this year.

Fatty’s is hosting the May edition of the Not My President show. from the organizer, RoseAnn Fino: “Since February, I’ve been putting on Not My President-A Monthly Show of Resistance where I get a group of performers together and we put on a show/party to raise money for a nonprofit. So far we have raised money for Planned Parenthood, CAIR-NY, and the ACLU. This month we’ll be having our event at Fatty’s Cafe in Astoria on Cinco de Mayo. All donations will go to the Immigration Defense Project and Border Angels. A keg of Modelo Especial has been donated so every beer sold will also go to our fundraising.
