Cafe Istanbul, a new local Turkish restaurant, has softly made its debut on Steinway, and will be hosting a Grand Opening on Sunday October 30. Sonny Shaikh , the owner Cafe Istanbul, is originally from Bombay, India. His inspiration for cooking came from his mother when he was just fifteen years old, and he’s been hooked ever since. In 1993, he made his way to the United States and received his first job in a restaurant. Working his way up to restaurant owner has been a lifelong dream, and he’s making it happen in our neighborhood. Some intriguing dishes include gourmet squab, rabbit, tagin lamb cooked with tomato sauce, a rack of lamb (pictured at the top of the article), stuffed lamb, and swai fish. These are definitely not your everyday menu items! The full menu can be found here. The spot will also feature hookah and belly dancers, if that’s something you’re interested in. The Grand Opening will run from 1:30pm to 5pm this Sunday, and will be attended by the local Turkish Consulate. Will you check out this new destination on Steinway? The menu definitely seems worth a visit!
