While screwing around doing research on Facebook this weekend, I wandered over to the District Mot page and learned that they’ve got an opening date! Their grand opening is planned for this Friday, February 12 at 5pm. For now they’ll be serving just dinner, but we expect that brunch and maybe lunch will follow in the not so distant future.

They also have a website up. Here’s their statement about the restaurant:

Family owned and operated, Michael Lien and Judy T are veterans of the game. They have a track record of successfully-run Vietnamese restaurants and Asian markets. Children of refugees from Saigon, they grew up with a loving appetite of authentic Vietnamese dishes. Inspired by a mother’s loving care of cooking, we strive to create a more natural and innovative take on Vietnamese cuisine. Our focus remains on honest, healthy and exciting food that honor our parent’s heritage.

And while we wish the photos on this page were part of District Mot’s menu offerings, alas, they are stock images from the Marquee template (you have nice taste, Squarespace).

We’ve reached out to the District Mot folks to learn more about their menu an any special things they are planning for the big grand opening, and will bring those to you if they come our way.

UPDATE! We had a lovely conversation with the District Mot staff and they’ve told us a few things. First, they will be giving out a glass of champagne to every guest during the first week for their grand opening celebration. Now, who doesn’t love a little bit of bubbly?! I also asked about some of their menu items and they told me this:

All of our pho comes with bone marrow and our bún (vermicelli bowls) comes with all natural meats. We’ll be serving street snacks like Grilled Rice Paper, and some traditional dishes like Shaken Steak with Egg, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, and Catfish with Vermicelli.

UPDATE 2! We’ve acquired a shot of their menu (click to enlarge). And it looks like vegetarians, they haven’t forgotten about you:

These are plenty of reasons to get excited about the grand opening of District Mot. Hope to see you there!

I had the exact same thought. With so few vegetarian pho options in Astoria (and quality vegetarian anything for that matter), I would have just handed them my wallet now. SOMEBODY PLEASE JUST TAKE MY MONEY ALREADY!!

Ugh, was really looking forward to this, their pho description doesn’t give me much hope that they’ll have a vegetarian (or vegan) version. So sad. . .
