Okay, so there were no big Powerball winners from Astoria. It’s time to move on from dreaming about tropical vacations and fancy new wardrobes and focus on the positive: we live in a pretty incredible neighborhood. But, even with all of the awesome features our beloved piece of Queens has to offer, there’s always room for improvement. That’s where you (and Citizens Committee For NYC!) come in.
Through their Neighborhood Grants program, Citizens Committee awards grants of up to $3,000 to resident-led groups ready to work on a project that will provide a positive impact to their community. Examples of such groups include block associations, tenants associations, civic groups, community gardens, student groups, PTAs, and more. Special preference is given to ideas benefitting Title I public schools and low-income neighborhoods.
In the past, groups have utilized the grant money to convert vacant lots into community gardens, organize school recycling drives, and put systems in place to bring healthy food to neighborhoods designated at food deserts.
Do you have an idea that would benefit our community? Head over to the official website for all application guidelines. A sample application can be found here. Now get moving!
