Twitter Facebook Email Print As big fans of live theatre, we’re very excited about a groundbreaking new play currently playing at APAC. From award-winning playwright Cheryl L. Davis comes Carefully Taught, an often humorous look at race and friendship in modern-day America. The cast consists of only four versatile actors playing ten different roles–occasionally more than one in the same scene! The play also features a live feed video element, so the actors must be well-versed in performing for both the stage and the screen. Sounds like their talent alone is worth the price of admission! More from Davis herself, who started writing the play some years ago and only recently came back to it: “I dug [it] out, and looked at the world around me. A world where claims of “reverse discrimination” are still being made, where racial tension (especially in schools) has only heightened….Turn on your radios and listen to Iggy Azalea and Macklemore – and then watch the videos and see the pale faces that go with their raps. Watch Beyonce swinging her long blonde tresses, and just try and get a ticket to the hottest ticket on Broadway, which features African-American, Latino, and other actors of color rapping America’s Founding Fathers. This is the world of CAREFULLY TAUGHT. We hope you enjoy it – because it’s the one you already live in.” Adding another element of excitement for theatre nerds, there are four musical theater references in the show. I’m dying to know if I’ll be able to catch them! Performances will be held Thursday, November 18-Saturday, November 21, with the following schedule: Thursday: 8pm Friday: 8pm Saturday: 2pm & 8pm Tickets can be purchased at apacny.org We hope to see you there!
