To be honest, I’ve been in a serious relationship for years, so I’ve never experienced being single while living in Astoria. But I do have friends that are living the single life. With all the sites and tools that are out there, my impression is that it’s pretty damn draining. So many profiles and messages to manage, the ghosting, the showing up looking nothing like the photos, the creepers. Recently, a local Astorian reached out to us because he’s currently producing a documentary about what it’s like to online date in the city. So, who’s ready to share their ups and downs with the general public? We’re posting the casting call for selfish reasons: if an Astorian gets picked, maybe some of our local hotspots will get included in the series! Which brings me to a question for our community: Where do you take your dates in Astoria & LIC? Do you take Tinder dates to different spots than you take dates from OkCupid? How about dates spawned from mutual friends or the good old method, talking to someone at a bar or event? We’d love to hear your thoughts for a future post. Share your favorite date spots in the comments! Of course, be sure to explain why your spots are good for first, second, and third dates. If you are actively online dating, there’s more info below about how you can submit yourself for casting consideration! CASTING: Online dating TV documentary series. Are you a single, 20- or 30-something restlessly checking your dating app in search of that one incredible person? Emmy-winning producers at Lincoln Square Productions (a division of ABC) are developing a TV documentary series on the ins and outs of online dating. This is a realistic look at contemporary dating life in the world’s greatest – and sometimes most stressful city. We’re looking for diverse men and women who will give us a look at their dating life – with all its quirks, awkwardness, hilarity, and hopefully romance. Send us an email at datescasting@gmail.com with your name, cell, recent photos, and an informal “bio”, your experience with online dating, and a brief note on why you think you’d work on the show. Even better, email us a 1-min video of yourself! We’re scheduling interviews ASAP on a rolling basis, either through video chat or at our office in midtown Manhattan, so drop us an email today!
