Do You Want To Write for We Heart Astoria?

Calling all talented writers, scoop chasers, and generally motivated Astorians- WHA is hiring!

We’re looking for a few good staff members to join our already awesome team. What we’re looking for:

• Someone with a solid knowledge of Astoria and Western Queens, who lives in the neighborhood/surrounding neighborhoods, and generally has a good relationship with the small business & cultural communities.
• Experience working in WordPress.
• A solid writing portfolio; someone who writes with their own tone & voice.
• Someone with a flexible schedule who is able to attend openings, tastings, and events, often with short notice.
• A team oriented person who also can work well on their own.
• The ability to turnaround articles quickly and professionally. You’ll be responsible for a minimum of 3-6 posts per week depending on our editorial schedule.
• Fluency in the major social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.) Bonus points for working with scheduling programs, email management programs, etc.

Please send 2-3 post ideas (can just be one or two sentences of article ideas you’d like to see on WHA), a writing sample, and a brief ‘get-to-know-you’ cover letter including why you heart Astoria. Extra bonus points for links/samples of photos you’ve taken that might impress and links to relevant social media.

This is a freelance position, with salary based on your level of experience + ability to grow with the gig.
