Welling Court Mural Project Plays Key Role in This Year̵ (...) What dark secrets lie beneath this beautiful church? Ready to experience the dark side of the neighborhood we love so much? We have a new walking tour for you: the Haunting Histories and Legends of Astoria! This spooky two-hour stroll through Astoria, brought to us by Boroughs of the Dead, “visits some lesser-known historical sites, including the glorious Victorian mansions of Old Astoria Village, and reveals unsettling tales of the neighborhood’s grim and ghostly past.” We may think of Astoria as a bustling community full of fabulous brunch options and cool coffee shops, but according to the walking tour organizers, it also has a dark history, filled with tragic Hollywood film stars, voodoo, potter’s fields, grisly murders, poltergeists, hidden treasure, and deadly waters. The walking tour is led by Astoria resident and author Marie Carter, who designed the 1.5 mile walks to showcase ghost stories and urban legends while remaining fully grounded in historical research. The next tours will take place Saturday, June 27 at 3pm and 8pm. (Bonus bravery points to anyone who attends the night session!) Tickets can be purchased for $20 in advance at www.boroughsofthedead.com, and are available for $25 at the door on the day of the tour. (Meeting point will be released to ticket holders; visit the website for more information.) Sounds like a ghastly good time!
