We knew what we were getting into, since we’ve eaten their food before (we are particularly fond of their sushi pizza), and the sushi didn’t disappoint. Overall, I think Pink Nori is a strong presence in the Astoria sushi scene, and we’re happy to recommend them. We started with a couple of cocktails—the Lycheetini and the Lychee Mojito. Both were good, but I preferred the mojito, since it had brighter flavors and was much less sweet. It was also very refreshing on a pretty humid day. That said, we’re told that the Lycheetini is one of their most popular cocktails. The Lycheetini. The Lychee Mojito. We got to try the Four Spicy Seasons, made with all things spicy—spicy tuna, spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail, and spicy shrimp. The fish sits atop rounds of crispy rice and is topped with caviar. We both really liked this dish. We tried some of their “new style” sushi—scallop with seared spicy aioli and caviar, tuna with vinegar tofu sauce and taro chips, and salmon with onion aioli and cherry tomato. Simple yet sophisticated. A couple more elaborate rolls came our way, including the very popular Sexy Pink Lady roll. I love the mango in it especially. We also tried the Flaming Dragon Roll. The thin slice of hot pepper was a real treat, and I am always charmed by the glowing bright light in the middle. Here are the two together. Thanks so much to Jesse and Pink Nori for a delicious dinner!
