At Taste of LIC last night, we spied this curious sign at the Studio Square/S Prime table: “Chef Julian Medina Is Coming To Astoria.” Inquiring further about it, we learned that he is setting up shop in the old 5 Napkin Burger space, which is adjacent to S Hospitality Group property S Prime. Likely it’s another location for Toloache, the much celebrated Mexican restaurant with locations in Midtown, Downtown, and on the UES, where Julian Medina is chef and owner. We have reached out to both the restaurant and to our press contact at S Hospitality Group to learn more. We’ll update you with more details as we get them. A few extra tidbits—Chef Medina once lived in Astoria (he mentions it in his memory of 9/11), looks like he’s a fan of Astoria’s Taverna Kyclades (mmm… octopus), and his prior connection to Studio Square is an event he was a part of there in September 2011.
