Although there has been a lot of chatter about how great it is that the Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks are returning to the East River, we are still big fans of the “pre-July 4” fireworks that happen by Astoria Park. It’s a great community event and is a lovely time in the park. So get there early if you can, put down your blanket, hang with your friends and enjoy the summer evening. The Queens Symphony Orchestra will be there to serenade you starting at 7:30 p.m., and then the Grucci fireworks display is after that when it’s dark. And yes it really is fun to have one of those glow in the dark wands to weave around after sundown. Be sure to stop by any of the bake sales that inevitably pop up, too.
