It’s a little hard to see but you can make out blue counters, some dark wood floors, exposed brick, and more. The space used to be home to Sleek Styles, a hair salon. Photo credit: Christopher Cummings Via the Department of Buildings, we see that they are in the midst of an estimated $30K renovation. Their plans include putting down new flooring, installing a new dishwasher, and no doubt new fixtures and furniture. It’s near the hospital so I wonder if they will have late, late hours so that people who are there waiting for a friend or loved one in the midst of hospital business can have a place to hang out. We’ve reached out to the lease holder and will pass on more information as we get it. UPDATE: We heard back from the owners! Here is what they told us: We will be offering all types of coffee beverages, espresso, etc. fresh breakfast pastries, and a few choices of fresh sandwiches, fresh juices along with several choices for cold beverages. We proudly will be serving La Colombe for all of our coffee products. They hope to be open in a couple of weeks, but the way things work in NYC, it could be later. They are really happy to be living in Astoria and are thrilled to be opening a coffee shop here—and yes, they LOVE coffee! The name of the cafe is Caffino. Reply Justine April 23rd, 2014 Super stoked to be getting La Colombe in the neighbourhood! Hands down one of the best coffees available here. Fingers crossed that it has plenty of seats and night owl hours. Reply Tim Rock April 23rd, 2014 If anything, Astoria needs a good coffee shop. If the town can support it, they should be around for a long time. Reply Andrew April 22nd, 2014 I love that this is happening. I live right around the corner and aside from the barbershop, mediocre pizza and dry cleaner, that half block has been a real rotating line up of uninteresting businesses. Here’s hoping it’s open late! Reply Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
