It’s a sad day for Mezze Place fans, we’re hearing very substantial rumors that this weekend could be their last. Fans of their warm, chewy pita and out-of-this-world hummus, run don’t walk.

Our source tells us that the Mezze Place spot, plus the neighboring hair salon, will be combined into one larger restaurant. Expect a Latin fusion vibe, hookahs, and a larger sidewalk cafe– if the new owner’s plans work out. Keep in mind, for now these are just rumors, and nothing has been 100% announced. We’ll bring you more news as we get it!
{Update: Though this post isn’t directly related to Mundo, lots of you are curious what’s happening with this old Astoria favorite. Word on the street is that they will not be back at the LIC Flea this year, instead focusing on a possible new neighborhood venture. More news when we get it!}
What a bummer. I actually really enjoyed their food. Their hummus and tabouli were amazing.

I was there over the weekend & they said that they are expecting to be closed by Thursday. They mentioned that they might reopen a place in the city someday, but no plans yet.
This would be a loss for sure.
This is the former Mundo, correct?
Eh, I’ve never been a fan of Mezze Place because it took the place of Mundo, which was amazing and I cried when they closed up. Mezze place looked and felt exactly like Mundo, except the food wasn’t as good. If anyone knows where the chef(s) from Mundo ended up, please make that public knowledge so I can find them and eat their delicious food once again…
They’re on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mundoastoria
They had a stall at LIC Flea last year and sounded they were looking to reopen, but based on their FB above, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of progress.
Wondering if they’ll show up at the Astoria Flea when that opens.
Talked with the chefs last year at LIC Flea and they said they wanted to open a new place with an “older than the hipsters” clientelle. :) We asked if there’s an upper age limit to their new venture, and whether red sonjas would be on the menu… Nothing concrete yet.
We actually have the scoop on the new Mundo project, but it’s under tight wraps right now. :)
A shame, but any chance of them moving? Seems like plenty of open storefronts even on BW.
