The building at 29-12 23rd Avenue, which used to be home to Stamatis, which relocated across the street a number of years ago.
For a number of years—since moving to their current digs across the street—the old Stamatis space has languished, collecting detritus in the doorway, its windows plastered with flyers, and it really has looked like a dump. Well, apparently that’s going to change, as a new restaurant is planned for that location, 29-12 23rd Avenue.
From the Department of Buildings, we learned that there has been paperwork submitted for a restaurant on the first floor, with commercial space in that building measuring at 2,421 square feet. They want to do some work inside, including structural modifications, which could, in part, allow for more people in that space.
We’ll keep an eye on it and share more info once we get it!
Pretty cool to see so many restaurant owners having success in Astoria…to the extent that they are opening multiple businesses. Love it.
From what I’ve been told, that will be occupied by folks involved with Sweet Afton.
