Twitter Facebook Email Print The other day I met up with a friend and we decided to go to the Astor Room for a cocktail – we both love the cocktails there. Imagine our pleasant surprise when we learned that when we arrived, oysters were just $1 each! We got a dozen of these Pine Island Oysters and they were fabulous. Tasted like the sea, and came with lemon wedges, and both a cocktail sauce and a mignonette (minced shallots and vinegar). I enjoyed the mignonette in particular. One of the reasons the oysters taste so good is that, according to the folks at the Astor Room, they are harvested daily at Frank M. Flower and sons of Oyster Bay and picked up by Astor Room staff directly from the hatchery. The oysters generally go from water to plate in the same day. As for my cocktail, being a bourbon fan I chose the Clara Bow cocktail, made with Old Forrester bourbon, house-made grenadine, St. Germaine liquor, lemon juice, and mint leaves. It was so good, I had two of them… not to mention it helped that cocktails were two for one at that time, too. $1 oysters are available every day from 5-7pm, and the two-for-one cocktails (two-for-one beer, wine, and mixers, too) are available Tuesday-Sunday from 5-7pm. This is a fantastic deal for fantastic food and drink. AND… on Wednesdays only they offer 24 oysters and 2 Stella Drafts for $25 from 5-7pm. Yet another delicious deal. I can’t wait to go back. Tuesday-Saturday, 4PM-7PM. I did not have a good experience with the Astor Room happy hour. They served me twice as many oysters as I requested, half of them were absurdly tiny so I thought they didn’t count, and they charged me for all of them. They also served raw chicken and a beef wellington that was just steak on top of bread. Reply Phillip March 19th, 2013 SUCH A GREAT DEAL! I think it’s the best happy hour deal to quality of service/stuff in Astoria. Reply Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
