Twitter Facebook Email Print With the weekend coming, it’s always fun to splurge a little and indulge in things you wouldn’t normally do during the week. I’m talking about decadent food and in particular, one of my all-time favorite treats – bacon! So, where are some of the best places in Astoria and LIC to get it? Koliba bacon on spaetzle Koliba – The best non-traditional, smoky slab bacon I’ve had (ever) can be found in this little Eastern European hidden gem on 23rd Avenue. You can find bacon in various forms including on top of tangy, sheep’s milk spaetzle or even as a simple side on its own. 31-11 23rd Avenue, Astoria. 718.626.0430 Sweet Afton – Another delicious place to enjoy great quality bacon, Sweet Afton serves it on their legendary burger. Supplied locally from a nearby Brooklyn butcher, this bacon is lean, crispy and bursting with flavor. It’s also double smoked! You can add it to your brunch burger if you please or put it on top of their 3 cheese mac ‘n cheese. 30-09 34th Street, Astoria. 718.777.2570 Bacon Brownies, Sage General Store Sage General Store – If you really love bacon and can’t get enough, you must try Sage’s 3-course bacon brunch on weekends. For $25, your taste buds will enjoy a bacon appetizer (a tasting of 3 different bacons), entrée (BLT, mac n’ cheese, breakfast pizza) and even a bacon dessert (bacon brownies!) 24-20 Jackson Avenue, LIC. 718.361.0707 SHI Shrimp and Bacon Dumplings SHI – This LIC eatery with a fantastic view of the waterfront has the best little appetizer that will drive any bacon lover nutz. I’m talking about their bacon wrapped (and fried!) shrimp dumplings. Every bite is pure indulgence and you won’t be able to eat just one or two, that much we guarantee. 47-20 Shore Blvd, LIC. 347.242.2448 Bacon from Parrot Coffee Market Parrot Coffee Market – The best place in the nabe to buy quality bacon is at this international specialty foods store. They carry big slabs of it, which will last you for a very long time and will enable you to recreate some of the wonderful specialties listed above (especially the style of bacon they do at Koliba). I buy the Russian variety and it’s about $6 for a very large piece. As Meg often says, “NOM.” 31-12 Ditmars Blvd, Astoria. 718.545.7920 Twitter Facebook Email Print 2 Comments judith July 16th, 2011 Very very cool – I didn’t know about this place. Will have to go and check it out. Thanks for the tip. Reply Laura July 15th, 2011 You can’t have a list of bacon in Astoria and leave out Muncan! They don’t have a website so the best I can do is link to yelp: http://www.yelp.com/biz/muncan-food-corp-astoria. They are on Broadway around 43rd, and have so many amazing bacon choices (over a dozen) it’s paralyzing. The store is simply covered in smoked and cured meats and sausages from a wide array of European traditions. Reply Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
