This Friday, June 14 from 1-10 p.m. local nonprofit Take Two NYC will be hosting its sixth Solstice Sock Drive at SingleCut Beersmiths Tap Room, located at 19-33 37th St. Bring a new pair of socks to donate, and your first beer is on the house!

Take Two was founded by Astoria local Leana Ovadia in 2016 to help street-sleeping New Yorkers access essential supplies—such as new socks, which are often lacking in clothing donations—that provide comfort, stimulate confidence and strengthen resilience.

Since then, it has been and continues to be entirely run by volunteers. They do the sock drive in advance of every solstice, then distribute the socks to our neighbors in need on the solstice. In December 2016 they began this tradition as a way to add warmth and light to the darkest day of the year.

If combining beer with an opportunity to give back is right up your alley, the brewery also created the MIGHTY REAL HIBISCUS IPA for Pride Month in collaboration with Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors United. True Colors United is an organization dedicated to finding housing solutions for homeless LGBTQ+ youth in NYC and beyond.

Throughout the month of June, 10 percent of the proceeds from the ruby-red-hued IPA will go directly to True Colors United. But, at their Pride event the next day on Saturday, June 15 (including a DJ, music and food), 100 percent of the proceeds from the beer will benefit them! Drinking a pint never tasted so good.
