Twitter Facebook Email Print Related scoops St. Joseph’s Day Pastries – Zeppola and Sfinge in Astoria Rose & Joes If you plan to stop by Rose & Joe’s Bakery (22-40 31st Street) this week, put you plans on hold—they are temporarily closed. A note on the door says, “Rose and Joe’s will be closed from Monday August 21 to Sunday August 27. Due to upgrading new equipment.” The excellent bakery pizza at Rose and Joe’s. They’ve been around for over 40 years, serving up tasty cookies, excellent bakery pizza, a variety of breads, and are one of the most favored places to get cannolis in the neighborhood (they fill them fresh to order). The are also well known for their Santa and Turkey breads during the holiday season, and offer the delicious St. Joseph’s Day pastries, the zeppole and sfinge. Sfinge filled with cannoli cream from Rose and Joe’s Bakery. Also, did you know that earlier this summer they opened a second location in Oyster Bay (Long Island)? According to an article by Edible Long Island, the new location remains a family affair. Chef Rosario Gambino, cousin to Joe Porretto said about the origin of the new location, “My family has owned the bakery in Queens for over forty years. I found a spot available in Oyster Bay that I thought would be a good fit for it. I told my cousin, ‘I’m a chef, you’re a baker. Let’s join forces.’” We look forward to seeing Rose and Joe’s back open, with getting a slice being a priority. Brenda Jamieson August 28th, 2017 The store didn’t reopen on Aug. 28. Many stores around here have closed for “renovations” and never reopened. We hope they do come back. We would miss them terribly. Reply
