A number of things have come across our collective WHA desk and we thought we’d pass them on to you.

For Sale

Craigslist revealed a number of local businesses for sale—Caffino (Crescent Street), Gizi Wine and Chocolate (Vernon Blvd), and Krave Cafe & Grill (Ditmars). We hope they each find a great buyer. (Perhaps that’s you?)

Open or Opening

Disco Paws. We reached out to Amanda Hogan, the owner of Disco Paws, a pet grooming/daycare shop on Ditmars, and she said, in short, “I hope it will add to Astoria’s hip yet charming neighborhood with its 70’s style flair! Pets and people can always use a little more fun in their lives.” We’ve asked to learn more and will pass that on soon. 31-19 Ditmars Blvd, Astoria. facebook.com/discopaws

Gaijin. New patio opened this past weekend! “Brand new patio will be open today at Gaijin! 5pm to 9:30pm. Come enjoy our hot robata plates and sushi pieces in our lovely backyard scenery.” 37-12 31st Avenue, Astoria. facebook.com/gaijinlic

ICONYC Brewery. They recently opened their tap room. Head over and try it! 45-13 34th Ave, Astoria. iconycbrewing.com

Menu Coffee Bar. The Deep Deli Grocery is out and Menu Coffee Bar is in as of May 2017. It’s a nice coffee option in the area, and convenient to MOMI and Kaufman (if you have business there). 34-56 33rd Street, Astoria. instagram.com/menu_astoria

Mothership Meat Company. We wrote about this Dutch Kills barbecue joint about a year ago, and it looks like they’ll be open this summer. Those of you that subscribe to our newsletter got this update yesterday (have you subscribed yet?), sourced from their recent Facebook post, “We have our approval and will be announcing an opening date in the next few weeks!” 27-20 40th Ave, LIC. facebook.com/mothershipmeatcompany

Nature’s Soul. Their grand opening is Thursday! Looks like a nice place to get a healthy bite to eat. Looks like nearby Greenbay will have some competition. 33-04 Broadway, Astoria. facebook.com/NaturesSoulOrganicCafe

Poke Wave. We reported on this one recently, and we can confirm they are open. 35-07 Broadway, Astoria. queenspoke.com

Uncle Jack’s Meat House. Looks like they will open this summer, perhaps even next month. From their Facebook post dated 6/12/17, “Inspections this week then we hire and train staff!” 36-16 Ditmars Blvd, Astoria. facebook.com/UncleJacksMeathouseAstoriaNY

Closed, Closing, or Altered

Bangkok Tasty. One of my favorite Thai restaurants in the neighborhood has a new name, San Aroy Thai Kitchen. Stop in for their opening special and get 20%off until June 14. 29-06 23rd Avenue, Astoria. facebook.com/sanaroythaikitchen

The Last Word. The other day it looked like they were doing some work on the front of speakeasy-esque The Last Word. The original storefront was revealed! We’ve reached out to the PR folks for the place to get the skinny on things there, but discovered that The Last Word has posted an update, “Sorry for the inconvenience — we’ll be back on Thursday!” 31-30 Ditmars Blvd. facebook.com/tlwastoria

UPDATE 6/16/17: Katherine in the comments inquires about Nazca, the Peruvian restaurant that opened, then closed in the old Cold Stone Creamery Space on Broadway. I poked around and found a comment on Reddit, since outreach to the restaurant by other WHA staff has yielded a big ol’ goose egg. “My girlfriend talked with the owner and I guess it going to be a tropical restaurant. Not sure what that means besides drinks in coconuts.”

There looks to be a new place on 34th and 30th Ave (across from Sweet Afton) called Chips. Signage says “cookies and coffee, opening soon). Would love to know more!

Any idea what’s going on with the construction at the old Brousko location (41st and 34th ave)?

Any idea what is coming in the old Nazca spot on the corner of Broadway and 35th?

There has been a restaurant in the making on 36th Avenue. The signage is up, “Bean’s & Lager.” But that is it… any insight?
