One of Astoria’s most beloved independent shops, The Little Soap Shop, is moving! And changing their name (they won’t be so little anymore). Here’s the announcement from their Facebook Page:

“As we approach our 9 year anniversary we are happy to announce that we are moving to a bigger and better location! Don’t worry we’re not going far at all… We would like to thank our loyal customers, friends and families for your continuous support. Now we will be able to bring you even more of nature’s best bath & body products along with lots of accessories, gifts and a children’s boutique. Stay tuned as we announce our new location and our new name.”

UPDATE 9/23: The Little Soap Shop has unveiled their new name: Lavender Label. From their Facebook page:

We are and always will be the home of The Little Soap Shop…. that’s why we are taking our original name with us as well. We have evolved so much over the past 9 years selling more than just your favorite organic bath & body so we felt the need for a new shop name… We hope you love our new name as much as we do! We will be bringing you many more of the bath and body products you have been asking for, more beautiful kids clothing, educational toys, accessories and gifts.

They also hope to have a soft opening on Saturday, October 1 and their grand opening on Saturday, October 8. Also, as per theirĀ Facebook post, the last day of operation on 36th Street will be Sunday, September 25. The following week, however, they will be preparing for their move to 23rd Ave and having a liquidation sale, “including decor and furniture. Flea market prices!!”

Additional comments indicate they are moving to 23rd Avenue and 29th Street, and we’ve asked for more details on the specific spot. UPDATE 8/29: They will move into 29-03 23rd Avenue, most recently the home of the (seemingly temporary) Jackson Hewitt Tax Services shop, which also used to be Continental Jewelry for many years. The old accounting office on the southeast corner of 23rd Ave/29th Street is a possibility, and I thought maybe the old Stamatis space could be a candidate, but that, according to the DOB, is going to be another “eating and drinking establishment.” So, we’ll see.

That section of 23rd Ave is pretty awesome, with a lot of great businesses like Coffee Pot, The Bonnie, NYC Bagel Coffee House, Stamatis, and more.

Big congrats to Vivian, Elena, and the whole Soap Shop team! We hope you guys love your new digs on 23rd Ave.
