While following the NYC Marathon route through LIC last weekend, I happened upon this new-to-me place on Vernon—Gizi, a bar offering wine, cheese, and chocolate. My favorite food vices all in one place! Goodbye, bank account.

It was a little hard to photograph (lots of reflection that cloudy day), but here’s the front door.

A recent Craigslist posting from a month ago offers lots of info about the bar. Here’s what they offer:

“We have large selection of world-class cheeses, an eclectic wine list and imported beers a menu of small plates, shared dishes and home-made desserts. We are committed to having the highest quality products made from the finest ingredients.”

There’s coffee (espresso drinks—“you’ll need to be capable of: weighing and dialing in shots, crafting excellent milk based espresso drinks (latte art +)” in the morning, wine and food later in the day. Their menu offers “charcuterie, cheeses, small plates, shareable snacks, sandwiches and flat bread pizzas.” It looks like they want their staff to be especially well-versed in the world of wine (“have super wine knowledge”) and cheese (“Cheese knowledge is a big plus.”). I expect they are friendly and upbeat with a good handle on hospitality.

This place looked technically open (paper down off the window, sandwich board complete) but their doors were not open near the noon hour during the Marathon, and heck if I could find anything about them online (including a way to contact them). I imagine it could be quite a lively spot, and they offer something a little different on Vernon Blvd. Sometimes you just want a light meal of wine and cheese, or a place to go get a post-show dessert and drink. I look forward to stopping by and seeing what Gizi brings to the LIC food scene.
